Ladies and gentlemen.. Andrew Q!

1. First of all, what got you really into photography as a child

My moms and pops. They were always taking pictures, I was like my moms piece when I was little, and my dad took photography in high school. And continued to do it as a hobby. I’m putting together an art show with all his work. There is photography, great photography that is never been seen, and well, my dads work needs to be seen. To me he is the definition of dope, And don’t get me going on my mom and her painting and drawings. Hahaha, as you can see I grew up with some very artsy parents.

2. Who are some of your inspirations as a young photographer?

I have to go with my moms and pops. Grew up with photography and art in general because of them. Also Ansel Adams, my pops always had his books around, so I grew up with that name. Terry Richardson, Boogie, Nabil, Estevan Oriol, David La Chapelle, very amazing photographers.

3. What is the best part about working as a photographer? worst?

What is the best part? Hahaha, ah man. The best part is that I get to work with a lot of amazing people, I meet new people all the time. The fact that I don’t know who I will be meeting next. I think a lot of people really don’t know how much work really goes on. But I enjoy it, it keeps me bust, and I’m doing what I love. I don’t think I really have a “worst” part.

4. What was your first camera? And as of right now, whets your favorite cam to shoot with?

My first camera was a 35mm canon EOS 700 that my pops gave to me. I still use it to this day. It’s been around 16 or more years. My favorite camera is my holga. That camera is great for everything. It only cost me 50 bucks, a great investment!

5. Noticed the De La Highs in one of your pics, I’m assuming you into the shoe game as well, and if so, what got you started?

Hahaha, everyone notices the de la’s.. Well honestly my moms and pops kept me in a fresh pair of Nikes or J’s constantly. So I think that’s what started me.

6. What type of artist are you listing to the most these days?

Whoa, Carter, Pacific Division, Dom Kennedy, Blu, doesn’t get better then that. And I must admit I got The Dream playing in my iPod. To be honest I have everything in my iPod, country, rap, r&b, hip hop, rock, electro it really just keeps going, I try to keep up with everything.

7. When you do your shoots, what are some things that you cant get started without or feel like you have to prep yourself?

Music, I have to play some music or at least play it before a shoot. A good conversation with the person I’m shooting is good too. Hahaha, I’m not going to hide this, I hate when people hide it. Some ganja is not bad before a shoot either. Hahaha, anyone reading this, I am a supporter of the green. Shit, Obama’s new D.E.A. agent passed that its up to each state. They can’t come and shut down any medical marijuana shops here in California! Go Green.

8. If you could shoot anything in the world, what would it be? And why?

That’s a good question, anything in the world. Hmmmmm, you know what, I can shoot this anytime but I really want to do a dope portrait of my moms and pops. I think that would just be the shit. Imagine that. Hahaha, I could picture it already.

Also, I would like to shoot Megan Fox, just putting it out there.

9. What would you say to any other young aspiring photographers who are beginning to pick up the cam?

Don’t limit yourself, always think big. And one thing I strongly believe in, and always say, NETWORK!!! It’s the business.

10. Shootouts? Final thoughts?

Brand Spotlight: Wasted Talent

Whats up? Ya boys back with some heat for ya! Gonna be a busy week at the "office"!

1. How did Wasted Talent get started?
After finding my niche by customizing a Munny by Kidrobot. The very 1st one I did practically gave me a foot in the door for opportunities to work with the "already successful" part of the industry. After that, I was just a surfer riding the wave. I went from partying everyday for years to BOOM! My career starts now. I always wanted to design clothes since I was 14. I literally started from scratch with 2 t-shirts and pushing them straight off of myspace alone, nothing else, it was easier for me to get the word out there and try and let people see my "vision", so to speak... and I pretty much took it from there. Still growing slowly, but "still growing".

2. What is your inspiration for your line?
Everything. Just trying to create some dope shit.

3. What are your future plans for the brand?
I want to design and create everything I can. As long as it's appealing to me as well. I'm not gonna be making any Cardigan sweaters anytime soon. I'm also planning to bankrupt Uggs for putting out such wackness and letting allllllll MY girls look like knuckleheads all this time. HA!

4. What have you been listening to lately?
It changes every hour. It could be hip hop, 80's freestyle, electronica, heavy metal, rock, reggae, I love it all. I'm constantly trying to find new music on myspace nobody knows about. I should totally be an A&R!

5. What are some accomplishments that WT made that makes you most proud?
Everything really. I've been doubted all my life for so long that I almost thought I couldn't do half the shit I did until after I did it and I'm like, "wow, I did it... and it looks good". Even having art "I" did tour next to names that in my opinion, are so much more talented then me. I never really expected much at first, so with that said, it feels great to even have done what I did in the 2 years I did it in as a one man team. I could stop right now and feel like I already show and proved, ya know?

6. Some useful advice for peoples who are thinking about starting there own line or opening there own shop?
I dunno about their own shop... yet, but just stay positive, save up money, research, research, research, study the industry, study their hits and misses, don't rush, have fun, you know... shit like that. Most importantly you gotta be creative and original!

So what/who inspired you to do music?
I've been around Hip Hop all of my life, honestly. Whenever we had school projects in elementary school, I would always try and incorporate some kind of rap. The first time I heard Timbaland in '97, it blew my mind. It was "I Can't Stand the Rain" by Missy. I went out and got the Timbaland and Magoo album after that. I don't know if I've ever played a CD so much in my life! I knew that whatever he was doing, I wanted to do when I got older.

How long have you been in the game?
I don't really think of myself as being in "the game" yet. Still paying dues. But I started dabbling with production in 2002 on FL Studio 3, the pirated demo version. After a computer crash, I decided to actually purchase the program online in 2005 and take a more serious approach to my craft. So I'd say I've been focused on this career path a little over 3 years.

What do you think the new direction of Hip Hop will be in 09?
I may come off as a homer, but I really see LA as being the next region to blow. I think the scene here is like a hip hop renaissance, and I'm fortunate to be apart of it. With artists like Pac Div, U-N-I, Dom Kennedy, Blu, the whole FCC, & Shawn Jackson on the comeup, I think we're gonna see a return of fun hip hop with lyricism included. LA isn't all gangbang music! I think that'll be seen in '09.

Anyone that you want to work with in the future?
Any artist that takes their craft seriously and is very talented. In a business sense, creatively, the full spectrum. I take pride in working with artists who I feel like are gonna blow up eventually and have an actual career in this Hip Hop game. That's how and why I've networked with artists like Prophit, Philthy, Hawdwerk, etc.

What would be your dream collaboration?
I'd love to do an EP with Lil Wayne. Yea, stone me if you want. I think if Wayne were paired with a producer who gave him a specific vision and direction for a project, it would be incredible. The guy is talented. I'd love to work with Common and Lupe. Of course, nobody would deny a Jay-Z collab either. It'd also be dope to get Blu on a reissue of "The 2 AM Tape"...rhyming over each track! I should work on that.

Any new projects in the works?
There is always a new project in the works. Up next on deck is an EP with Philthy called "LoveSongs For Losers & Ballads for Ballers". That should be out by February or March. Also at work on a mixtape with my group called The Bench Mob. That's my rapping outlet, with my partners LabCat & BE.water. End of 09, Hawdwerk and I will be working on an album. All of that plus some outside production on other albums. Hopefully 09 will bring even greater success.

What would you define your sound as?
Im often told that I have a very soul & mellow sound.I definitely think that's a style I possess. However, with The Bench Mob album and some outside production on the way, I'll be able to show versatility, and you'll notice by some of the artists that are featured on the production. I'd like to think that regardless of the style, my production comes off authentic and honest...that it allows for the artists to simply do themselves on the track.
